Landlords in Dorset have assisted 100 households in moving into privately rented accommodation since the beginning of 2026. This support is part of the Dorset Council's Key4Me scheme, which provides financial help, free paperwork, and ongoing assistance to landlords housing individuals at risk of homelessness.
The Key4Me initiative has facilitated accommodation for more than 270 households since its launch in November 2024. Councillor Gill Taylor, the council's cabinet member for housing and homelessness, stated that housing is a key priority for the council, with the scheme aiming to help more households access affordable homes in the private rented sector.
Landlords participating in the scheme receive various benefits, including help with rent in advance and incentive payments. A deposit bond can cover up to 12 weeks' rent, while cash deposit assistance is limited to five weeks' rent. Additional support includes a pet bond of up to £400, a compliance check, and a free tenancy agreement and inventory. Landlords can also receive support from the tenancy sustainment team and a year's free membership to the South West Landlords' Association.
