A Kansas judge has reportedly convicted a driver of vehicular homicide in the death of school teacher Ashleigh Boyd. The verdict for Todd W Armstrong was delivered on Monday, just four days after a Louisiana jury found a woman guilty in the death of Boyd's husband, Adan Manzano.
Judge Andrew Holmes found Armstrong guilty of vehicular homicide following a one-day bench trial concerning an 11 April 2024 traffic collision in Topeka, Kansas, according to Boyd's father, Brian Hinck. Armstrong had pleaded not guilty and is tentatively scheduled for sentencing in November.
Boyd, 24, died at the scene after Armstrong's pickup truck, reportedly on the wrong side of the road, hit her sedan head-on. Her infant daughter, Eleanor, was injured in the crash. Investigators alleged that Armstrong's truck had been parked at a casino for five hours before the collision, and a urine drug screen reportedly indicated the presence of cocaine metabolites in his system, though this evidence was omitted from the trial.
Boyd's husband, Adan Manzano, a Telemundo reporter, died on 5 February 2025, in Kenner, Louisiana, while preparing to cover the Super Bowl. Investigators determined he had been drugged and robbed. On Thursday, a Louisiana jury convicted Danette Colbert, 49, of negligent homicide and racketeering in Manzano's death, and Rickey White, 35, of racketeering. Colbert and White's sentencing is tentatively scheduled for 28 September.
Boyd and Manzano's three-year-old daughter, Eleanor, is being raised by her grandparents, Brian and Nicole Hinck, who have spoken about shielding her from the details of her parents' deaths.
