A rescue cat, Lottie, has given birth to nine kittens, which the RSPCA's Bridlington branch has described as one of the biggest litters it has seen in years. The three-year-old cat and her offspring, comprising five males and four females, are currently being cared for at a cattery run by the Bridlington, Driffield and District Branch of the RSPCA.
Lottie, who was not microchipped or wearing a collar, was discovered wandering in Wold Newton a few weeks ago by a member of the public. Cattery manager Sophie Gibbon-Roles stated that the branch is assisting Lottie by syringe-feeding the five-week-old kittens twice daily due to the size of the litter.
The Bridlington branch has cared for 127 cats and kittens so far this year, marking a 41% increase compared to the same period last year. The branch attributes this rise to people not prioritising neutering and has warned that overbreeding could lead to more kittens being born with infections. Donations of kitten milk and mousse are being requested to help feed the large litter.
