Driver jailed for fatal 2021 hit-and-run in west Belfast

Martin Sean O'Lali has been jailed for causing the death of Richard Boyle in a hit-and-run incident in February 2021.

Martin Sean O'Lali, 28, of Breton Court in Lisburn, has been jailed for causing the death of 42-year-old Richard Boyle by careless driving. The incident, described by the judge as a "shameful litany of events", occurred in February 2021.

Belfast Crown Court heard that O'Lali was sentenced to two years and seven months. He is expected to serve half of this sentence in custody before being released on licence. Additionally, O'Lali has been disqualified from driving for three years.

Richard Boyle was walking his dog on the Stewartstown Road when he was hit by O'Lali's car. The court heard the vehicle was travelling at 90mph in a 30mph zone.
