Daniel Dubois delivered a dominant performance at London's O2 Arena, stopping British rival Fabio Wardley in just two rounds to retain his title. The 29-year-old's victory was described as far more emphatic than their initial encounter in May, solidifying his standing among the heavyweight elite.
Following his win, Dubois is now looking towards unification fights against some of boxing's biggest names. IBF champion Filip Hrgovic entered the ring after Dubois' victory, indicating a desire for a rematch. However, Hrgovic, 34, has a mandatory challenger in Cuba's Frank Sanchez, and promoter Frank Warren is working on staging Hrgovic's first defence in Croatia early next year, which could delay a reunion with Dubois.
The biggest financial prize for Dubois could be a clash with the winner of the highly anticipated Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua showdown. After years of negotiations, Fury and Joshua are finally scheduled to meet at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on 11 December, with the main event expected in the early hours of 12 December. Warren stated that the vacant WBA 'super' title will be on the line, potentially opening the door for unification fights in 2027.
Meanwhile, Germany's Agit Kabayel, the WBC champion, will make his first defence against Albania's Nelson Hysa on 28 November. A unification fight against Dubois in 2027 could provide Kabayel with an opportunity to become a bigger name in the sport.
