Thousands of rail passengers face fresh disruption this weekend as Network Rail continues major improvement work on the East Coast Main Line, one of Britain's busiest railway routes.
The upgrade programme will see some lines closed or running reduced timetables across the route connecting London, Newcastle and Edinburgh. Network Rail has urged passengers to check train times before travelling and plan journeys well in advance.
The East Coast Main Line carries more than 900 trains daily and serves over 100 million passengers annually. The current phase focuses on upgrading signalling and track infrastructure, alongside replacing ageing bridges and culverts to boost reliability and reduce delays.
The work forms part of a long-term programme designed to increase the line's capacity and improve punctuality across the network. Network Rail has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the essential upgrades.
Passengers can check the latest service information on the National Rail website or through their train operator's platforms. Network Rail has also launched an email service providing regular updates on the improvement work's progress and potential disruptions.
