Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is reportedly set to depart the club with immediate effect, sources have told BBC Sport. The 48-year-old's tenure concludes after a 4-1 pre-season friendly loss to Bristol City on Wednesday.
Howe, who took over from Steve Bruce in November 2021, notably guided the Magpies to their first major domestic trophy in 70 years, securing the Carabao Cup in 2025. He also led the team to Champions League qualification in both 2023 and 2025.
Despite these successes, pressure mounted last season as Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League, losing 17 of their 38 matches. Their EFL Cup defence ended in the semi-finals, and they reached the last-16 of the Champions League before an 8-3 aggregate defeat to Barcelona.
The club, which spent around £240m on new players 12 months ago, has recently sold key players Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and Anthony Gordon to Barcelona.
