Gareth Ritter, a teacher who featured in the Channel 4 series Educating Cardiff, has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.

  • Gareth Ritter, 44, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.
  • He also pleaded guilty to the possession and distribution of unlawful images of the same woman, taken when she was 17.
  • Ritter has been granted bail until his sentencing on 4 November.

Gareth Ritter, a 44-year-old teacher from Bryngwyn, Monmouthshire, who appeared in the Channel 4 documentary series Educating Cardiff, has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl. He entered his plea while giving evidence in his defence.

The court heard that Ritter had previously denied intentionally touching the teenager sexually without consent when he was in his 30s. The victim, now in her 20s, stated that after an event in Cardiff, Ritter offered her a lift home but stopped at a flat he owned in Cardiff Bay. She alleged he touched her bottom and kissed her inside the flat.

The woman reported the incident several years later after detectives examining Ritter's phone for an unrelated matter found intimate images of her. The court was told these images were screen-grabbed with her consent during a video conversation with another man and were later found on Ritter's phone. Ritter has also pleaded guilty to the possession and distribution of these images, as the woman was 17 at the time they were taken.

Ritter was granted bail and is due to be sentenced on 4 November.
