Police have referred files to prosecutors for consideration of charges in connection with the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has committed to making a decision on who will face criminal charges before the 10th anniversary of the fire in June next year.
The police files include 20 organisations and 54 individuals. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and Kensington and Chelsea council have both confirmed their inclusion on this list. Kensington and Chelsea council stated that a charge of corporate manslaughter is being considered against it, alongside potential breaches of health and safety and fire regulations.
Angela Rayner, on Wednesday, pledged the government's full cooperation with whatever decision is reached regarding a potential breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The Metropolitan Police have indicated that trials are unlikely to commence before 2028.
