Electronic Music is Fastest Growing Genre in US, Luminate Report Finds

Electronic music has been identified as the fastest-growing genre in the US for 2026, according to a new report from Luminate, an entertainment analytics firm.

  • Electronic music is the fastest-growing genre in the US in 2026.
  • R&B and hip-hop remain the most popular genres, accounting for one in four online songs.
  • Latin music has also seen significant growth, with casual listenership reaching 54% in Q1 2026.

A new report from Luminate has revealed that electronic music is the fastest-growing genre in the United States this year. The findings, based on mid-year data, indicate that dance music has outpaced all other genres in growth compared to the previous year, with artists like Disco Lines and John Summit contributing to the trend.

Despite this growth, R&B and hip-hop continue to be the most popular genres across the country, making up one in every four songs played online. The report also highlights a surge in interest for Latin music, with casual listenership reaching 54 per cent in the first quarter of 2026. Artists such as Shakira, Peso Pluma, Karol G, and Bad Bunny are credited with driving this increase.

Overall streaming has also gained momentum, rising by approximately 4.8 per cent compared to the same period in 2025. Additionally, UK artists have seen increased popularity in the US market, which has grown to 7.8 per cent.

Why this matters: The report indicates a shift in music consumption trends, with electronic and Latin music gaining significant traction and a structural realignment in language and borders for mainstream music success.
