Eliud Kipchoge, the 41-year-old Kenyan athlete, won the Melbourne Marathon on Sunday, marking his first marathon victory in three years. He broke the race record by two seconds, completing the new course in two hours, nine minutes, and 10 seconds.
Kipchoge, a two-time Olympic champion and former world record-holder, stated, "I believe that my body is still peaking – still able to compete with the next generation." He increased his pace after 30km to achieve the record.
This event was Kipchoge's debut in the Melbourne Marathon and forms part of his world tour, which aims to see him run a marathon on each continent. He previously finished ninth in the 2025 Sydney Marathon.
Australian Thomas Do Canto was the runner-up, finishing in 2:10:35, while Jimmy Whelan placed fifth. New Zealand's Camille French won the women's race in 2:28:25.
