Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of the blood testing startup Theranos, will reportedly be transferred from a minimum security prison to a halfway home in August 2027. The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) reportedly informed Holmes's victims of the upcoming move to the Austin transitional center in Del Valle, Texas.
Holmes, 42, was sentenced in 2022 to more than 11 years in prison for defrauding Theranos investors out of hundreds of millions of dollars. She was also ordered to pay restitution. The company had falsely promoted its technology as being able to detect diseases from drops of blood.
While Holmes has been incarcerated at the federal prison center in Bryan, Texas, her prison term has reportedly been reduced multiple times. US district judge Edward Davila reportedly stated in court filings that her shortened sentence does not diminish the weight of her fraudulent behaviour.
BOP records indicate that Holmes is set to leave prison in February 2030. ABC News reported that Holmes plans to reside in Austin following her release.
