Welsh cyclist Emma Finucane secured her fourth gold medal on the final day of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, winning the keirin event. This achievement makes her the first sprint cyclist to claim four track gold medals at a single Commonwealth Games.
Finucane's other gold medals were in the team sprint, individual sprint, and the 1,000m time trial. She expressed surprise at her success, stating, "I don't think I'll ever believe that I've made history here."
Australia concluded the Games with 171 medals, 70 of which were gold. England finished with 110 medals, while Canada secured 62. Australian swimmer Sam Short had reportedly told reporters before the Games, "I'm so pumped – I can't wait to go over there and smash those Pommies up."
In other events on the final day, Leigh Hoffman became the first Australian cyclist to win four medals at one Games, taking three gold and one silver. Louise Hoskins, 76, became the oldest athlete to win gold in Glasgow in para bowls. England's netball team missed out on a bronze medal, losing to Australia.
