A Swindon woman has described her overwhelming joy after being reunited with her beloved cat, Ian, eight years after he disappeared. Claire Jerome, whose black and white 'tuxedo' cat vanished when she moved house, burst into tears upon seeing him again, a moment she described as 'amazing'.
Ian, now ten years old, had reportedly been living as a stray, sustained by the generosity of local residents in Wiltshire. His long-term disappearance came to an end when one of his regular feeders relocated, leading to the cat being taken into Purton Cattery over the past weekend. Staff at the cattery, discovering Ian was neutered and microchipped but unable to immediately trace his owners, launched a social media appeal to find his family.
Ms Jerome recounted her initial disbelief when her father and a friend alerted her to the Facebook post. Despite the striking resemblance, she was hesitant to get her hopes up. However, upon visiting the cattery, any doubts quickly vanished. "The minute he came out from under the sofa and walked towards me I just knew," she said, adding that she became visibly emotional when Ian brushed against her.
Emma Turner, who manages Purton Cattery, confirmed that Ian had been regularly fed by neighbours for years. She expressed how 'absolutely over the moon' Ms Jerome was following the reunion. Beyond his human family, Ian also experienced a heartwarming reunion with his feline relatives. Ms Jerome still cares for Ian's brothers, sisters, and his elderly mother and father. She noted that Ian, initially skittish, visibly relaxed upon seeing his mother, a moment that brought smiles to everyone involved.
