England's netball squad delivered a commanding performance against Tonga, clinching a 94-32 victory in a crucial Pool A match at the Hydro in Glasgow. This win saw England break their own Commonwealth Games record for goals in a single game, surpassing the 89 goals set against Sri Lanka in 2002.

The 2018 champions established an early lead, finishing the first quarter 27-8 up, and maintained their dominance throughout the contest. Goal shooter Eleanor Cardwell was instrumental, netting 54 goals from 60 attempts. Sasha Glasgow and Ella Clark added 30 goals between them, while Olivia Tchine chipped in with 10.

This significant margin of victory has boosted England's goal average to 1.74 and goal difference to 127. They now sit third in their pool, level on six points with South Africa and Australia. England is set to face South Africa in a vital final group game on Thursday at 21:00 BST, with a semi-final spot on the line.

Earlier in the day, Scotland narrowly missed a major upset against Jamaica in Pool B, losing 45-43. This defeat has severely impacted their hopes of reaching the semi-finals. Wales also faces an uphill battle, needing a win against New Zealand to have any chance of qualifying, while Northern Ireland's campaign is over after a fourth consecutive loss.

Why this matters: The victory significantly boosts England's chances of reaching the semi-finals in the Commonwealth Games netball competition.
