England's Tuchel assesses squad after Nations League games

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has evaluated his squad following four Nations League matches, noting the strong performance of his attacking players and the return of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

  • Harry Kane equalled Peter Shilton's record of 125 England caps in a 3-0 win over the Czech Republic.
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold, excluded from the World Cup squad, was recalled for the Nations League games and delivered strong performances.
  • Midfielder Alex Scott suffered a thigh injury after an impressive debut in a 7-0 win against Croatia, potentially sidelining him for two months.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has used the recent extended international break and four Nations League games to rebuild his squad following the World Cup semi-final loss to Argentina. The squad included recalled players, new additions, and established figures like captain Harry Kane.

Kane, 33, equalled Peter Shilton's record of 125 England caps during Tuesday's 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic. He also extended his record as England's all-time top scorer, now with 91 goals.

Tuchel's attacking quartet, featuring Kane, Anthony Gordon, Bukayo Saka, and Jude Bellingham, has shown significant threat. Gordon has improved since joining Barcelona, while Saka has appeared rejuvenated after an Achilles injury during the World Cup.

In midfield, Alex Scott made an impressive debut in England's 7-0 win against Croatia but subsequently sustained a thigh injury, which could sideline him for two months. Tuchel acknowledged the competition in midfield, stating that while Declan Rice remains a fixed point, other players are emerging.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, previously excluded from the World Cup squad due to Tuchel's concerns about his defensive play, was recalled for the Nations League games. The 27-year-old delivered strong performances, including an assist against the Czech Republic, suggesting his continued inclusion in the squad.
