Enzo Fernandez has completed his move to Manchester City for £125m on deadline day, a transfer that equals the British record. The Argentina midfielder, who previously joined Chelsea in January 2023 for £107m, expressed his long-standing ambition to play for a club of City's size.
Fernandez stated, “I always dreamed of being at a club as big as City. I’m grateful for the opportunity. It’s a very emotional moment for me and my family, to take this step at 25 years old, in a football career that I always dreamed of. I’m so happy to be here, enjoying these first few hours I’ve had at the club.” He added that Manchester City's history demands they compete for and win every trophy.
This transfer completes a £326m midfield overhaul for City, following the signings of Elliot Anderson for £116m and Ayyoub Bouaddi for £85m. Fernandez also thanked his former Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, for his role in persuading City to sign him, noting Maresca's significant effort in making the move happen.
