Detectives investigating the murder of Melanie Hall, who disappeared from a nightclub in Bath nearly three decades ago, are making a renewed appeal for public assistance, focusing on a specific moment during the Euro 96 football tournament. Ms Hall, then 25, vanished after a night out at Cadillacs nightclub in the city centre on 9th June 1996. Her remains were tragically discovered by a motorway service station worker near the M5 at Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, in October 2009.
Avon and Somerset Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was in the area of the Cadillacs nightclub, or the wider Bath city centre, at approximately 7pm on Saturday, 8th June 1996. This specific time coincides with Alan Shearer's opening goal for England against Switzerland in the Euro 96 championship. The police believe that individuals who were watching the match in pubs or homes might recall seeing something unusual or someone acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the club either before, during, or after the game.
The investigation into Melanie Hall's murder has been one of the longest-running cold cases in the region. Despite extensive enquiries over the years, including multiple arrests, no one has ever been charged in connection with her death. The discovery of her remains, 13 years after her disappearance, provided a crucial breakthrough but the identity of her killer remains elusive.
