Everton have climbed to fifth place in the Premier League, just three points shy of the top spot, following an unbeaten start to the season. This comes after their 1-0 victory against Ipswich, secured by a goal from Thierno Barry.
Barry's fifth goal of the season, described by Ipswich manager Gary O'Neil as "fairly unfortunate to go in off the guy's midriff," ended a four-game drought for the striker. A second potential goal for Barry was disallowed after a VAR check for an offside Brennan Johnson.
Manager David Moyes expressed satisfaction with the team's start, stating, "We have done pretty well." He also highlighted an increase in goalscoring opportunities, noting, "Statistically we have been making much more chances." Despite having 21 shots against Ipswich, only two were on target, which Moyes acknowledged "is not any good."
Everton's defensive solidity has also been a key factor, with five clean sheets across all competitions, three of which were achieved in the last eight days. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made several crucial saves, including early stops from Emersonn, Fatawu, and Julio Enciso.
