Build A Rocket Boy (Barb), a video game studio founded by former senior Grand Theft Auto developer Leslie Benzies, has entered administration. This development comes 15 months after the release of its debut game, MindsEye, which was met with negative reviews and player complaints.
MindsEye launched in June 2025, with some players calling it "the worst game" of the year. Former workers at the Edinburgh-based studio described the game's development as chaotic and accused Mr Benzies of mismanaging the company. Following the game's launch, between 250 and 300 staff members were made redundant.
According to Barb's latest accounts, covering the period up to September 2025, the studio recorded a £36.2m loss and had £10.5m in net assets. Entering administration means the company can no longer pay its bills, and an administrator will now manage the business, potentially leading to a sale or closure.
