The former husband of Lindsay Clancy, 35, testified on Wednesday in the trial where she is accused of killing their three children in January 2023. Patrick Clancy recounted returning home to find his children dead and his then-wife injured.
Ms Clancy admits to killing her children, five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan, in their Duxbury, Massachusetts home. Her attorney argues she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, a rare mental illness, and therefore did not intentionally murder them.
Mr Clancy testified about his wife's deteriorating mental health in the months before the killings, including her expressing thoughts of suicide and harming their children. He stated she had been prescribed medication and had stayed at a psychiatric hospital earlier that month, but appeared to be doing better two weeks before the incident.
Prosecutors contend that Ms Clancy acted intentionally, pointing to her asking her husband to run errands shortly before the deaths. Jurors heard Mr Clancy's 911 call where he discovered the children, who had been strangled with exercise bands.
If convicted of murder, Ms Clancy faces life in prison without parole. If found not guilty due to a lack of criminal responsibility, she would be committed to a state mental health facility.
