The family of Elisabeth Ross, a Scottish aid worker whose body was found in a suitcase in Athens, has paid tribute to her as "kind, principled and selfless". Ms Ross, 38, known as Lisa, was discovered in an abandoned building in the Kypseli district on 18 July, several days after being reported missing.
Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, a boxer from Afghanistan, has been accused of her murder, robbery, and weapons offences. Greek police allege that Mr Ahmadzai transported Ms Ross's body and used her bank cards to withdraw money. He has been charged with homicide with intent, equivalent to a murder charge in the UK, and has been jailed until his trial, which could be up to 18 months away. Mr Ahmadzai reportedly denies the murder charge but admits moving the body, claiming he feared being blamed for her death.
Ms Ross had arrived in Greece on 26 June and was volunteering with a refugee support group. Her friends and Destiny Church in Edinburgh, where she was a member, also shared tributes, highlighting her "deep compassion" for refugees and her dedication to helping others.
