A final prosecution witness in the Lindsay Clancy trial has testified that he believes the Massachusetts mother knew right from wrong when she took the lives of her three young children in 2023. FBI psychiatrist Dr Gregory Saathoff told a court in Plymouth that he does not believe Clancy's account of hearing a voice ordering her to kill her children.
Clancy's defence team maintains she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she killed her five-year-old daughter Cora, three-year-old son Dawson, and eight-month-old son Callan. Saathoff testified that Clancy's ability to carry out the killings without direction indicated she "had control, control of the sequence of what she was doing throughout."
Clancy has admitted to strangling her children with exercise bands in the family's basement but has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Saathoff also testified that he found it unusual Clancy claimed the voice she was hearing stopped once she had killed the children.
Under cross-examination, Saathoff stated he had treated only two women with postpartum psychosis in the late 1980s and 1990s. Jurors are expected to hear closing arguments, likely on Thursday, before receiving jury instructions and beginning deliberations.
