Fifa has launched disciplinary proceedings against Argentina concerning several incidents that occurred during their recent World Cup journey. This includes the display of a Falkland Islands banner following their semi-final victory over England.
A number of Argentinian players reportedly unveiled a hand-written sign asserting Argentinian ownership of the British overseas territory after securing a win in Atlanta. This action is understood to contravene rules against non-sporting demonstrations.
The governing body is also investigating a brawl that erupted after Argentina's 1-0 defeat to Spain in the final. Leandro Paredes and Nahuel Molina are under investigation for alleged assault on Spain's Rodri and Eric Garcia. Assistant Roberto Ayala is also being investigated, alongside Thiago Almada, Molina, and Spain's Gavi for alleged unsporting behaviour.
Further allegations under consideration include discriminatory chants and gestures, late kick-offs, failures to comply with match and security protocols, and the display of inappropriate messages by both the team and spectators, as well as the throwing of objects by spectators. These charges relate to multiple matches played by the team during the World Cup.
