World football has been plunged into open conflict following Uefa's threat to boycott the World Cup and all Fifa competitions. This comes after Gianni Infantino's plans to sell stakes in the tournament to private investors provoked fury among major football federations.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) became the third body to reject the proposals today, joining Uefa and Concacaf. The AFC warned that confidence in Fifa’s governance has been "undermined" by the plans. This leaves Infantino’s proposal in tatters ahead of a scheduled vote on 19 September.
