Finn Wolfhard, best known for playing Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things, has called Toronto a 'second home' in a recent interview, praising the city's balance of big-city energy and neighbourhood charm. The actor, who was born and raised in Vancouver, says he has spent so much time working and visiting family in Toronto that it now feels like a home away from home.
Wolfhard highlighted Toronto's art scene as a major draw, noting the student-run shows at the University of Toronto and Toronto Metropolitan University. 'There's a kind of hub for the arts and for film school in Toronto,' he said. 'Many major shows and movies have been shot there, so it definitely has a thriving film industry.'
For quiet moments, Wolfhard recommends High Park on the city's west side and the smaller Trinity Bellwoods Park, which he says 'feels a little like London'. He also singled out Queen Street West and Roncesvalles as hip neighbourhoods with a vibe similar to Hackney, but 'less grungy'.
When it comes to food, Wolfhard declared that Toronto serves 'the best pizza slice I've ever had', though he did not name a specific pizzeria. The city's music scene also earned praise, with the actor name-checking bands such as Alvvays, PUP, Metric, and Sloan, alongside major stars like Drake and The Weeknd.
For British tourists considering a trip to Toronto, the city offers a cleaner, more relaxed alternative to New York, with a strong cultural calendar and green spaces ideal for a summer break. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) currently has no travel advisories against visiting Canada, though standard travel insurance covering medical expenses and trip cancellation is recommended. Direct flights from London Heathrow to Toronto Pearson operate with British Airways, Air Canada, and WestJet, with return fares starting from around £450 in economy. A visa is not required for UK passport holders for stays of up to six months.
