Passenger rail services have commenced between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, connecting the two cities for the first time by train. The inaugural passenger train from Al Yayalis Dubai station departed at 6.14am on Wednesday, 30 September, arriving in Abu Dhabi 64 minutes later.
Etihad Rail, the UAE's national railway network, has launched these services, which are faster than the typical one and a half hour journey by car or coach. Five trains run daily in each direction, with two morning services and three in the afternoon. The last train from Abu Dhabi leaves at 5.43pm, and the final departure from Dubai is at 6.14pm.
Standard class tickets are priced from 39 AED (£8), while premium class tickets start at 109 AED (£22.37). Premium class offers additional legroom, reclining seats, complimentary Wi-Fi, and snacks. Each of the 13 new trains can carry up to 400 passengers.
