Florence Pugh criticises Instagram over 'Cornell 7' post censorship

Actor Florence Pugh has accused Instagram of censoring her posts regarding a civil lawsuit against seven Cornell University fraternity members.

  • Florence Pugh stated on The View that Instagram applied a "content warning" to her posts about the Cornell University allegations.
  • Pugh expressed "rage" and anxiety over the alleged gang rape scandal and the perceived lack of attention it received.
  • The actor shared a screenshot showing an Instagram advisory on her post, stating it contained "content that some people may find upsetting."

Florence Pugh has reiterated her accusation that Instagram censored her message concerning an alleged gang rape scandal at Cornell University. Appearing on The View on Wednesday to promote her new Netflix show, East of Eden, the 30-year-old actor stated that Instagram covered her posts with a "content warning" after she shared a statement about a former Cornell student's civil lawsuit.

The lawsuit alleges that seven Chi Phi fraternity members sexually assaulted the student in October 2024. Pugh explained her decision to speak out, saying the situation made her feel "scared," "anxious," and "so much rage." She added that she felt compelled to use her platform to discuss the case on behalf of "all women."

Pugh initially posted that she was "enraged" by the situation and called on men to be equally horrified. She later shared a screenshot of her Instagram Grid, which still displayed an advisory from the platform, stating: "This post contains content that some people may find upsetting." Pugh commented on this, writing: "Instagram decided to block my post from getting in front of the right people."
