Flávio Bolsonaro has taken a significant lead in Brazil's presidential election, winning the first round against current president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Bolsonaro, 45, secured 56.1 million votes, representing 47.03% of the total, while Lula, 80, received 53.8 million votes, or 45.16%.
This outcome places Bolsonaro in a strong position for the second round, which is set for 25 October. Political scientist Miguel Lago stated that he does not foresee Flávio Bolsonaro losing the election.
The Liberal party (PL), associated with Bolsonaro, is expected to form the largest group in the senate, holding 28 out of 81 seats. When combined with other hard-right parties, this number reaches 43, giving the movement a majority in the upper house.
