Former Home Improvement actor Jonathan Taylor Thomas was detained on Monday in Westlake Village, California, after allegedly obstructing an officer. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated that Thomas, 45, was a passenger in a vehicle found blocking traffic at a green light.
Officers conducted a sobriety test on the driver, who appeared intoxicated. During this time, Thomas allegedly disrupted the investigation by repeatedly exiting the vehicle and approaching deputies, according to KABC. Authorities said Thomas, whose legal name is Jonathan Taylor Thomas Weiss, appeared intoxicated.
Deputies reportedly attempted to detain Weiss for obstruction and public intoxication, at which point he allegedly kicked a deputy in the stomach. Thomas was detained at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station’s jail at 12:32 a.m. and released over 34 hours later, according to arrest records. The driver was also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
No charges have been filed against either man. The sheriff’s department plans to submit the case to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, which will decide whether to file charges.
