A former Thai MP, Chalong Reawraeng, allegedly shot dead a local official in the southern province of Nonthaburi. Mr Reawraeng then reportedly called into a YouTube livestream to inform the host, political pundit Anchalee Paireerak, of what he had done.
Mr Reawraeng told Ms Paireerak that he had shot Thongchai Yenprasert, a former police official and president of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO), outside Mr Yenprasert's office. Mr Yenprasert, who was hit in the neck, died in hospital. His driver was shot in the arm and hand.
Mr Reawraeng was arrested and later held a press conference at a police station. He told reporters that Mr Yenprasert was "angry" at him, but did not explain why. He also stated he did not intend to shoot Mr Yenprasert, whom he described as a "good friend". According to local media reports, the two were involved in a personal dispute.
The shooting on Monday follows a separate incident three days prior where a 14-year-old boy shot eight people and then himself. The two attacks are not related, but the latest shooting is expected to further spur debate about gun control in Thailand.
