Four Britons one win from US Open main draw after qualifying victories

Four British tennis players are on the cusp of reaching the US Open main draw after successfully navigating their second-round qualifying matches in New York. Jacob Fearnley, Toby Samuel, Harry Wendelken, and Harriet Dart each stand one win away from securing their place.

Jacob Fearnley, the 25-year-old world number 100, demonstrated resilience to clinch a 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 victory over Frenchman Luka Pavlovic. He will now face Austria's Jurij Rodionov.

Toby Samuel, 23, who made his Grand Slam debut at this year's French Open, mounted a comeback to defeat fellow Briton Billy Harris 4-6 6-4 6-1. His next opponent will be Chile's former top-20 player Cristian Garin.

Harry Wendelken, 24, ranked 196th, saved a match point during a three-hour battle against Switzerland's Remy Bertola, ultimately winning 5-7 7-6 (7-4) 6-4. He is set to play Lithuania's Vilius Gaubas. Harriet Dart, 30 and ranked 77th, also advanced, recovering from a set down to beat American Kristina Penickova 5-7 6-0 6-3.

Meanwhile, Fran Jones and Katie Swan are also scheduled to compete in their second-round qualifying matches on Wednesday. However, Jack Pinnington Jones was defeated by Finland's Otto Virtanen in three sets.
