A shooting at Silver Rail elementary school in Bend, Oregon, on Thursday resulted in the deaths of three children and a teacher. The gunman, identified as 16-year-old Griffin J John II, was a former student at the school.
The student victims were aged five, eight, and 11. The youngest victim was identified as Rhoam Summer, aged five. The teacher killed was 25-year-old Megan Lambert. All victims were shot in the same classroom.
An armed bystander, Kaylub Giamanco, who has two daughters at the school, pursued and shot the suspect inside the school before police arrived. Police said the shooter fired as many as 15 shots from a 12-gauge shotgun after forcing entry into the building.
Two other victims, a seven-year-old student and 54-year-old teacher Becky Drury, are currently hospitalised. The student is receiving "life-saving care," and the teacher has "significant" but non-life-threatening injuries.
All public schools in the district, along with local college campuses, were closed on Friday. The FBI is assisting local authorities with the investigation.
