A teacher at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, tackled a 16-year-old gunman who opened fire on a special educational needs class. The teacher wrestled with the suspect, Griffin J. John II, who was armed with a shotgun and had previously attended the school.
During the struggle, a father driving past the school, identified by his family as Kaylub Giamanco, ran inside. He was armed with a .40-caliber pistol and shot the suspect multiple times, killing him. Police Chief Mike Krantz stated that the actions of both the teacher and the father saved lives.
The attack resulted in the deaths of three children, aged five, eight, and eleven, and a 25-year-old teacher, Meghan Lambert. Five-year-old Rhoam Summer was among the victims identified by police. Two others, a 54-year-old teacher and a seven-year-old student, were injured, with the student in serious but stable condition.
Police are investigating how the suspect acquired the gun and his exact movements, with a motive for the attack currently unclear. A search warrant has been executed at the suspect's home.
