Hôtellerie des Laquets, France's highest hotel, has reopened in the Pyrenees. Situated 2,620m above sea level, the hotel welcomed guests in late September 2026, having been closed since 1996.

The hotel, originally built between 1930 and 1933, has undergone extensive renovation. It now offers 16 rooms, a bar, and a restaurant with a menu by chef Stéphane Tournié. A spa area featuring a sauna and steam room is scheduled to open in December 2026.

To reach Hôtellerie des Laquets, travellers must take a cable car to the 2,877m summit of the Pic du Midi, then connect to the hotel via a private cable car. Half-board double rooms, some in the historic 1930s building, start from €599 (£506) per night and include a daily planetarium show.

What this means for you: If you plan to visit Hôtellerie des Laquets, be aware that access requires two cable car journeys, and half-board double rooms start from €599 per night.
