French DJ and electronic music star Kavinsky, whose real name was Vincent Belorgey, has died at the age of 50. Authorities discovered the musician in his Paris home at approximately 10:30pm local time on Tuesday, July 28.
The discovery was made after a concerned neighbour contacted emergency services, stating they had not seen the artist for several days, as reported by French news outlet Le Figaro. The newspaper indicates that the cause of death is believed to be a stroke. Le Figaro also reports that in the days leading up to his passing, Kavinsky told those close to him that he was experiencing severe headaches.
Paris local police have opened an investigation into the causes of death to determine its origin, according to France24. Police also stated that "no suspicious elements were discovered at the scene by the first responders."
Kavinsky was widely recognised for his hit song 'Nightcall', which was featured prominently in the soundtrack of the 2011 film Drive. He performed 'Nightcall' live at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics in 2024, an event that led to the song becoming the most Shazamed track ever in a single day.
