A severe deluge is set to engulf a large part of the UK today, with commuters and residents bracing themselves for widespread disruption and hazardous travel conditions. The Met Office has issued a fresh yellow weather warning, which currently covers many areas of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
The heavy rain is expected to bring a significant risk of flooding in low-lying regions and urban areas, with the Met Office warning of hazardous driving conditions, including slow-moving traffic and treacherous roads.
England's affected areas include the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, the North West, the East Midlands, the West Midlands, the East of England, and the South East. Scotland is under a countrywide alert, except for the Highlands. Wales and Northern Ireland will also feel the brunt, with warnings in place across both nations.
As part of its advice, the Met Office urges people to 'be prepared' for the heavy rain and keep an eye on the weather forecast. Residents are also advised to plan their journeys carefully and check for road closures before setting out.
Temperatures will remain steady at around 10-12°C (50-54°F) throughout the day, with wind speeds reaching up to 30-40mph (48-64km/h) in some areas.
