The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has initiated its 2026/27 recruitment campaign for new members to join its Scientific Advisory Committees (SACs) and Science Council. The campaign aims to fill 23 positions, including two chair roles, 19 full or associate member positions, and two lay member positions.

These committees provide independent scientific advice to inform evidence-based decision-making on food safety and standards, playing a role in protecting public health and consumer interests.

The FSA encourages applications from individuals across diverse backgrounds and a broad range of scientific and professional disciplines. A virtual information session for prospective applicants will be held on Friday 18 September 2026, from 11am to 12pm, where current SAC members and FSA colleagues will share insights and answer questions. The deadline for applications is 12 October.

Why this matters: The recruitment aims to ensure continued independent scientific advice for food safety and standards in the UK, which informs decisions impacting public health and consumer interests.

What this means for you: If you are a professional with relevant scientific or professional expertise, or an individual interested in contributing to food safety, you may consider applying for these roles.
