London Gatwick Airport has confirmed that its fuel supply is now operating as normal, following a temporary technical issue that had prompted warnings to airlines. Pilots reportedly received emergency alerts over the weekend, advising them to uplift maximum possible fuel at other airports due to a shortage at Gatwick.
A memo seen by The Sun reportedly warned staff that Gatwick had a fuel shortage for two days. A separate "emergency" notification was also issued to airline bosses regarding "potential disruption to the Gatwick fuel supply."
However, a Gatwick spokesperson told The Independent that the issue, which occurred on Sunday, 2 August, has been resolved. The airport stated that fuel is flowing as expected, all airlines are operating normally, and passengers should continue to travel as planned. Engineers reportedly worked to fix a technical issue at one of the airport’s fuel suppliers. The airport experienced no disruption to flights as a result of this temporary issue.
This incident follows a major water shortage at the airport a week prior, which affected toilet and hand washing facilities for passengers.
