British number one Arthur Fery is set to make his US Open debut today, facing Italian 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti. The 24-year-old, currently ranked 33rd in the world, enters the tournament following a remarkable run to the Wimbledon semi-finals.
Fery's career has seen a significant shift in the past year. Twelve months ago, he was outside the world's top 300, playing ATP Challenger events. He recently reached his first ATP Tour final at the ATP 250 event in Winston-Salem, where he finished runner-up to Ignacio Buse.
Musetti, 25, reached the quarter-finals at last year's US Open and has also made the last eight at the Australian Open in January. Despite missing the French Open and Wimbledon due to a thigh injury, he has shown signs of returning to form with recent quarter-final appearances in Washington and Cincinnati.
Fery narrowly missed out on a seeding for the US Open, which are given to the top 32 players. He acknowledged the tough draw, stating, "I still feel I have my chances in that match-up if I prepare and play well."
