The 1898 Porter’s House, a newly refurbished four-room luxury townhouse in Ghent, Belgium, opened on 1 September. The hotel is designed with a magic-inspired theme, featuring a curated scent diffuser named “Freyr” with notes of patchouli, amber, vetiver, and myrrh.
The hotel is described as an adult-focused experience, suitable for couples, and is an extension of the 1898 boutique hotel brand. It includes amenities such as a wet room with twin rainforest waterfall showers and a copper ice plunge bath on a private terrace.
The main building, 1898 The Post, a 38-room heritage hotel, features secret doors, an honesty bar with a hidden library, and a cocktail bar called 1898 The Cobbler. The hotel manager, Damien Brunin, stated that 200 floating candles have been ordered for the enormous spiral staircase for Halloween.
Ghent is accessible from St Pancras via Eurostar in approximately four hours. Visitors can use CityCards from Visit Ghent for access to attractions like guided boat tours and entry to see the restored Ghent Altarpiece Painting.
