Gihan Arnolda, who received his licence earlier this year, is the first trainer of black or Asian heritage at Flat racing's headquarters in Newmarket. In his initial three months as a trainer, Arnolda has secured five winners from 33 runners, accumulating £50,000 in prize money.
According to Timeform's "run to form" statistic, Arnolda's operation is currently outperforming all other Flat yards in Britain. His journey to becoming a trainer includes a period of sleeping rough on the streets of east London as a teenager.
Arnolda's first winner was Damascus Steel, a six-year-old grey gelding, at Goodwood in mid-June. Damascus Steel is scheduled to compete in the Amateurs' Derby at Epsom on Monday, a feature event of the bank holiday programme.
