A nine-year-old girl has died after a two-vehicle crash in the Highlands. The collision, involving a VW Polo and a Ford Ranger, took place at about 17:30 on Wednesday on the A831 between Drumnadrochit and Cannich, south of Inverness.
Police confirmed the girl, who was a rear seat passenger in the VW Polo, was pronounced dead at the scene. A front seat passenger from the same vehicle was transported to hospital for treatment.
The road was closed for seven hours to allow for an investigation into the incident. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended the scene.
Sgt Kate Finlayson stated that inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash. Police are appealing for witnesses, including anyone who saw the vehicles prior to the collision or who may have dashcam footage from the area.
