The ashes of Eloise Jackson, who was seven when she died in a crash five years ago, have been returned to her family. The ashes completed an 11-month round-the-world trip aboard a racing yacht.
Eloise was killed in a collision with a lorry in July 2021 while cycling near her home at Collingbourne Ducis on the A338 in Wiltshire. Her mother, Laura Jackson, stated that the trip on the 70ft Clipper yacht was a way to "enable Eloise's legacy to continue".
The yacht was part of the Clipper Round the World Race, which involved 10 yachts crossing five oceans with stopovers in various countries. Eloise's ashes were carried on a yacht sponsored by her father James's company, and her grandfather designed a special logo for the vessel.
The Jackson family met the yacht upon its return to Portsmouth on Tuesday, 28 July. Laura Jackson also created 'Eloise's Army' to raise awareness and support other families affected by child bereavement. More than £20,000 has been raised in Eloise's memory, with £13,000 donated to Greatwood, a charity that provides a home for former racehorses and offers alternative education for children.
