Google Labs, the tech giant’s public incubator, has launched a new AI-powered game-creation platform named Playground. The platform allows users to build browser-based games using simple text prompts, removing the need for coding expertise.
Creators can select a genre, specify 2D or 3D, and choose between single-player or multiplayer experiences. Users can also describe desired mechanics, gameplay, and visual style, or upload visuals for the AI to transform into game assets.
Once created, games can be played on both mobile devices and computers. Projects can be kept private, shared via a link, or published to Playground’s Explore gallery, with published games supporting features like leaderboards.
Google plans to add Unity Spark integration in a future update, which could provide Playground users with access to additional 3D capabilities and professional-level game mechanics. The platform is initially available to users aged 18 and older in the U.S., with plans for expansion to other countries.
Browsing and playing games in the catalog is free, while game generation uses a weekly token system. A free tier offers a limited number of tokens, and Google One AI subscribers receive higher usage limits.
