Google has launched a new Mac application called Google AI Edge Foresight, designed to compete with AI note-takers such as Granola. The app operates entirely offline, utilising the on-device EmbeddingGemma 2 model, which has 740 million parameters.
Google AI Edge Foresight can capture meeting notes across various applications, including those from in-person meetings. Users can write shorthand notes on one side of a split-screen view while AI-generated notes appear on the other. The app also allows users to view meeting transcripts and interact with a Gemma 4-powered assistant for answers.
The application enables users to upload documents, including PDFs, Google Docs, Microsoft Office formats, plain text, Markdown, and web bookmarks, to create a knowledge base. This feature allows the app to answer questions in real time by referencing meeting notes and uploaded documents. Google states that AI Edge Foresight is optimised for Apple Silicon and its offline capability means it can be used while travelling or without an internet connection.
