Uber and Chinese autonomous vehicle maker Pony.ai are planning to launch a robotaxi service in London. The two companies announced on Thursday that they will begin testing Pony.ai’s Gen-7 robotaxis in the city in the coming weeks.
This move is part of an expanded partnership aimed at introducing driverless cars to Europe. Uber expects to offer autonomous vehicle (AV) trips in up to 15 cities globally by the end of 2026, with markets split between the U.S. and internationally.
The partnership between Uber and Pony.ai began in May 2025, initially focusing on the Middle East. It has since expanded to Europe, where there are plans to deploy 2,000 robotaxis, starting with Zagreb, Croatia. In August 2026, an autonomous ride-hailing service was launched in Zagreb with a third partner, Verne, where Pony.ai supplies the autonomous driving system and the Arcfox Alpha T5 robotaxi.
The London service is expected to follow a similar model, though details on fleet ownership and operation have not been specified. Pony.ai is not Uber's only robotaxi partner in London; Uber has also partnered with and invested in British self-driving startup Wayve, with plans for a separate robotaxi service in the city.
