Google Maps is set to integrate fuel price information for UK motorists, with the feature launching on Thursday. A search for forecourts on the app will now show their locations and pricing, drawing data from the government's Fuel Finder scheme.
UK forecourts are legally required to update their prices on the Fuel Finder scheme within 30 minutes of any changes. This initiative comes as fuel costs continue to rise, with diesel prices recently topping £2 per litre for the first time before falling by 2p.
While some experts, such as Clare Lafferty from PetrolPrices, have raised concerns about the completeness and accuracy of the Fuel Finder data, Google Maps and Waze director of product partnerships, Sarah-Jayne Williams, stated that Google will independently verify the data and only display prices it has high confidence are accurate.
