New reports have been published today, 10 September 2026, detailing the government's progress on improving building safety and implementing recommendations from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 report.
The publications include the final reflections from Interim Chief Construction Adviser Thouria Istephan, who was appointed last year to provide an independent voice on government reforms. Her report covers progress made over the last 12 months, as well as future challenges and opportunities in building safety.
The government confirmed that nine additional Grenfell Tower Inquiry recommendations have been completed since May, bringing the total number of completed recommendations to 30 since February 2025. These updates include the Building Advisory Committee and Fire Safety Working Group becoming fully operational, and £13 million being made available for UK higher education institutions to support fire engineering professionals.
Building Safety Minister, Baroness Blake, stated that the government remains committed to learning from the Grenfell Tower fire and ensuring safety and robust regulation are central to the built environment sector. The upcoming Remediation Bill is intended to ensure landlords fix unsafe buildings.
