Great Britain is on the verge of returning to the Davis Cup Finals, needing just one more victory on Sunday after Arthur Fery and Toby Samuel secured wins against Ecuador at London's Copper Box.
Toby Samuel, a late replacement for the injured Cameron Norrie, made a nervous start on his debut, losing the opening four games to Ecuador's Andres Andrade. However, the 24-year-old recovered to claim a 4-6 6-4 6-1 victory. Samuel described the experience as having "the most nerves I’ve had before a match, even more than the slams I’ve played."
Arthur Fery followed Samuel's win with a dominant performance, securing a 7-5 6-0 success against Alvaro Guillen Meza. Fery, who made his Davis Cup debut a year ago, expressed the unique feeling of playing for his country, stating, "You’re playing for a whole nation, there’s more responsibility on your shoulders."
These victories mean Britain requires only one win from a potential three matches on Sunday to book their place in the eight-team finals, set to be held in Bologna in November. This would mark their first appearance in the finals since 2023.
